Reflections:
I haven't changed the type of homework I give. I have changed the amount of time I spend in class allowing the students to work on the assignments. On occassion, they should have about 5 minutes of homework. Eventhough the homework consists of finishing reading or flashcards, there is at least one student in each one of my four reading classes that doesn't have it finished. This is definitely an improvement and is less of a hassle for me, but I hardly give homework.
I worry about what will happen to this class in the future because I am giving less homework.

My current homework practices...

Reading:
Literature Circles
After the students pick a novel to read, it is divided into 5 sections. I assign dates for each section to be read by. The students can read most of it in class or read at home before the due date. They also respond to each section by using a reading strategy.
Vocabulary
Students are required to create flashcards for the 20 words in the unit. I give class time and usually 2 nights to complete this. Students should spend a few minutes each night studying for the test.

English:
Writing Pieces
I have the students continue writing rough drafts at home. I usually give 2 or 3 nights to finish them. After peer/teacher conferencing, they edit the piece at home. This is usually 1 night. Then final copies are submitted. They can type the final copy, but it is not necessary.
